Our Story
In 1982, after three years of meeting in private homes, three families
and a few young people officially opened The Christian Evangelical
Church of Hernani in a rented shopfront. For the first time on the
streets of this town there was an evangelical Christian testimony.
Although it was established as an independent church, its organisation
and statement of faith were those of a Brethren Assembly. From the
beginning, the church has maintained close relationships with the rest
of the protestant churches and organisations, supporting and
participating in combined events, such as the annual United Prayer Week
(organised by the Evangelical Alliance), and participating with other
congregations in evangelism, the rehabilitation of people with
addictions, and missions work (in Equatorial Guinea and Rumania).
The church was open to the renewal movement which affected many
protestant churches and groups, and established links with
"Buenas Noticias", a renewal movement on a national scale, where we
found support and blessing.
Currently, as a founder member of the Evangelical Council of the Basque
Country, we maintain strong links with the other protestant churches of
our own province, Guipúzcoa, and the surrounding provinces, sharing
with all of them the desire for unity and co-operation.
